The case with ribbon-tied moulding to the flat top, beaded frames to the front and sides and on concave moulded base, laurel wreath mount above the white enamel Roman and Arabic dial signed FERDINAND BERTHOUD, with counterpoised blued steel sweep centre seconds hand and pierced gilt-metal hour and minute hands, the eight day movement with circular plates and four back-pinned pillars, twin barrels with anchor escapement and grid-iron pendulum (now steel suspended), from bracket to rear of case, strike on bell to the back plate with repeat signature; later plastic glasses, cracked front glass -- 15¾in. (40cm.) high
