An Edwardian mahogany and inlaid quarter chiming longcase clock with tubular bells, early 20th century
With urn finial to swan neck pediment, sound frets to the sides, outset fluted columns to the front with carved Corinthian capitals, the trunk inlaid with swags, moulded frame to the glazed trunk door flanked by brass stop-fluted half columns, the plinth inlaid with a swag-draped fruiting basket, the 12in. wide gilt-brass dial with mask and foliate spandrels to silvered Arabic chapter ring, rubbed silvered signature plaque to matted centre, the arch above with subsidiary rings for Whittington Chimes Westminster Chimes and Chime/Silent, the substantial eight day four pillar movement with deadbeat escapement, maintaining power, wood rod pendulum with cylindrical bob and calibrated rating nut, hour strike on large tubular bell stamped G. BEARD and quarter chimes on eight further tubular bells, each stamped G.B. -- 100in. (254cm.) high
