A George III carved mahogany longcase clock, late 18th century
The hood with swan neck pediment above blind fret panelling, outset part-fluted columns with brass Corinthian capitals, half columns to the rear, the door with concave moulded frame, carved borders and dentil throat mouldings, further blind fret panel above the arched door with moulded frame, flanked by reeded three-quarter length half columns, resting on blind fret carved blocks, the panelled plinth flanked by canted angles with cabochon carving, on bracket feet, the 14in. wide painted dial with fruit spandrels to Roman and Arabic chapter ring with dot minute track, exotic birds to the centre flanking the subsidiary seconds and date rings, blued steel hands, with painted rolling moon above, with falseplate to the eight day four pillar movement with anchor escapement and rack strike on bell -- 91in. (232cm.) high
