Lot Essay

Possibly used to defend Chirk during the Civil War, this cannon is probably the 'Brass and Iron Cannon mounted 10.0.0' listed in the Courtyard Gateway in the 1795 Inventory. It is visible, with a larger companion, in this position in a family photograph of David, Fiona and Hugh Myddelton circa 1950.
