Lot Essay
This richly carved pier-table, with 'Elizabethan' vase-baluster legs, was probably commissioned in the 1840s for Chirk's Red Drawing Room by Colonel Robert Myddelton Biddulph, and is designed en suite with the room's central 'loo' table and sofa-table (Lots 150 and 158). It appears in the window-pier in a March 1862 watercolour of the room executed by the Hon Mrs Mary Wombwell (from an album retained by the Myddelton family).
