Lot Essay

The bed's reeded posts wrapped by Roman acanthus are designed in the George IV antique manner, such as George Smith illustrated in his Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterers, Guide, Drawing Book and Repository, 1826; while the cornice's architectural tablet corners reflects a fashion popular around 1700.

Brynkinalt, Clwyd, the ancient family seat of the Trevor family, was built in 1612 by Sir Edward Trevor, Sir Thomas Myddelton's political rival. Two centuries later the house was aggrandised by Arthur-Hill Trevor, 2nd Viscount Dungannon, and then in 1926 and again in 1952, when it was returned almost to its original appearance.
