Lot Essay

The derelict remains of the Victorian gas works at Chirk can still be seen behind Home Farm, designed by E. Pugin in the 1850's. Amongst the Myddelton family correspondence included with lot 502 is one from Robert Milne and Son Brass Founders, Gas Meters & Gas Apparatus 17 July 1856, about supplying 'the additional gas holders in all 48 packages for Chirk Castle..Our workmen will proceed to Chirk next week to fit up the same and lay the enlarged pipes required for the increased supply necessary'.
