TASSO, Torquato (1544-1595). Rime et prose parte prima [seconda; terza]. Ferrara: Giulio Vasalini [for Vittorio Baldini], 1583.
Parts I-III in 3 volumes, 12° (134 x 70mm). Italic and roman type. Woodcut arms of Alfonsus II of Ferrara on titles. Woodcut historiated initials and other ornaments. (Last quires of vol. I wormed in gutter, vol. III with worming affecting text of quires L-N, and some light waterstaining of lower margins, without blank E6 in vol. III.)
BINDING: contemporary limp vellum for Jacques-Auguste de Thou [not later than 1587], sides blocked with De Thou's arms as a bachelor within frame of double fillets, flat spines gilt-lettered with title and his cypher 'IADT' twice repeated, gilt edges (stains on lower cover of vol. II, lower cover of vol. III slightly cockled). Cf. Olivier 216, fers 1, 2 and 3. Musea Nostra, p. 41.
