A sampler worked by Ann Arding aged ten years and dated 1793, worked in coloured silks to a wool ground with a central shaped cartouche enclosing verse, surmounted by a vase of flowers between a shepherd and shepherdess, reserved against a spot motif ground including flowering jardinières, trees, deer, birds in branches, squirrels and angels, within a stylised trailing floral border --14½ x 12½in. (38 x 31.5cm.), English circa 1793, some holing, later glazed and framed
