A static display model of the John Alden designed schooner Malabar X
a solid hull model with a dark green bottom, a white waterline, black topsides and a gold cove stripe. The decks of the model are planked and the deck of the model is fitted with a number of details which include deck houses, companionways, anchors, anchor windlass, cleats, traveler bars, hatches, skylights, running lights, binnacle, wheel, turning blocks, and many other details. The model is rigged as a schooner with two masts, standing and running rigging, mast hoops in brass, a full suit of cotton sails, and other rigging details. The model is mounted on a pair of mahogany cradles and displayed on a mahogany board.

Lot Essay

designed by John G. Alden, and built in East Booth Bay, Maine in 1930 by Hodgdon Brothers with principal dimensions of LOA: 58.3', Beam: 14.2', Draft: 8.1' and was schooner rigged. She had a successful career, finishing second in the 1930 Bermuda Race, and first in the 1932 Bermuda race.
