A dockyard style model of an 18th Century Yacht

This simple but elegant model is built in plank on frame construction in 5/8" scale and based on Chapman's Architectura Navalis Mercatoria is displayed in the traditional dockyard format with exposed frames, planked topsides from the waterline, an ebonized waist and planked decks. The decks are of boxwood, and all the planking is pinned in place. Other details on this model include carved and gold leafed eagle figure head, window frames, rudder post head, tiller, ladders, stump mast, rudder, etc. The model is displayed on a pair of brass pedestals in a glass and mahogany case.
27¾ x 10½ x 10 in. (70.5 x 26.7 x 25.4 cm.) cased dimensions.
Built 1982.

Lot Essay

This model won the 2nd place medal at the 1000 Islands Model Boat Show in 1984.
