An early 19th century Napoleonic Prisoner of war bone model of an 80 gun ship of the line
the hull of the model is planked in bone with a the waist planked in baleen, the decks of the model are planked in pieces of bone veneer, and all of the planking is pinned in place. At the bow of the model is a carved figurehead in the form of a Roman warrior with a raised shield and a sword. At the stern of the model the transom is carved and pierced with a floral decoration and chrubs, and the quarter galleries are carved in a similar fashion. The pull strings for the gun retraction mechanism exit below the stern gallery, the model is fitted with numerous details which include: anchors, capstan, a carved beak head, pin and fife rails, pierced and carved balcony railings, boats hoisted above the main deck, and another lashed to the frames over the gallery, a raised poop deck, deck gratings, companionways, skylights, carved and pierced hammock netting, belfry with ship's bell, flagstaff, and numerous other details all carved from either bone or ivory. The model is well rigged with three masts, standing and running rigging, bone turning blocks and deadeyes, gold and rope bandings to the lower mast, ebony stun'sail booms, double dolphin stryker, and many other rigging details. The model is displayed on a mahogany base board inlaid with boxwood and ebony and displayed within a mahogany framed glass case
