After the America's Cup in 1937, the New York Yacht Club annual cruise commenced at New London, CT on 17th of August. The two Endavours were invited to join the cruise, the first time two English yachts participated in the cruise and the annual regatta. This painting probably decits the Astor cup races which took place 18th of August off of Newport over a 24 mile triangle in a dying northeaster, going southerly with seventeen boats competing, Ranger was the easy victor. This was the end of the J-class era, as a fleet of so many J-class yachts would never compete again.
