A Pittsburg, un revendeur ne put sortir la Mustang de son atelier à cause de la foule qui se pressait autour. Une autre incroyable histoire relate qu'un vendeur avait quinze clients pour la même voiture. L'acheteur passa la nuit dans sa nouvelle Mustang de peur que le vendeur ne la cède à un autre client, le temps que son propre chèque soit encaissé !
La profusion de motorisations disponibles entendait délibérément étendre son attrait à travers tout le marché de la voiture personnelle. Débutant avec un 170 ci de 101 chevaux, la gamme progressait à 260 ci (164 chevaux et V8) et finalement au 289 ci alimenté par une barrière de quatre carburateurs offrant 210 chevaux. Les transmissions étaient proposées en trois ou quatre vitesses manuelles, ou avec la boîte automatique Ford Cruise-O-matic à trois rapports. Le châssis aux panneaux de carrosserie soudés signifiait qu'il y avait en fait une structure unitaire, fait nouveau pour un constructeur américain. Elle n'a donc connu qu'un seul propriétaire, un médecin suisse qui l'utilise uniquement les mois d'été pour faire le tour du lac Léman. L'auto est dans sa couleur et sa configuration d'origine et était toujours abritée dans un garage durant les mois d'hiver.
Etat
Totalisant un kilométrage actuel de 91.000 km, la voiture est dans un bon état d'origine. Elle n'a jamais subi d'accident et fut repeinte en 1992. Elle ne porte pas de trace de rouille. Du fait de son usage restreint durant 39 ans, l'intérieur est également en excellent état. L'auto a toujours été bien entretenue et est vendue avec les dernières factures et expertises techniques; elle n'est mise en vente qu'en raison de problèmes de santé et d'une utilisation très restreinte.

Model history
The Ford Mustang was an instant success the minute it was introduced on April 17, 1964. Both the timing of its announcement and its overall package were superb; after the record breaking success of the compact Falcon, Ford had spotted the need for a small sporty car in the lower price range, an area of their business where there was very little competition. The new car was based on the Falcon's chassis and many of its components, but with stunning new proportions. With a cleverly orchestrated press and advertising campaign, customers literally were fighting to obtain the new Mustang. In Chicago, a Ford dealer felt obliged to lock the doors of the Mustangs in his showroom because so many people were trying to crowd into the cars at once, they were in danger of injuring themselves. In Pittsburg, a dealer could not get a Mustang off the wash rack because of the crowd of people pressing below. Another remarkable story involved a dealership where 15 customers wanted the same car. The buyer apparently slept the night in his new car so that the dealership would not sell it to another customer before his check cleared!
The variety of engines offered was deliberately intended to spread its appeal across the whole 'personal car' market. Starting with a 170ci. 101bhp six, the range progressed to the 260ci. 164bhp V8 and finally the 289ci. with four barrel carburetors producing 210bhp. Transmissions were three and four speed manual gearboxes or Ford Cruise-O-Matic three speed automatics. A platform chassis with welded body panels meant it had in effect a unitary structure, which was novel for a US manufacturer. Initially the Mustang was offered with two body styles: a two door hardtop and convertible, and in 1965 a fastback was added. With a vast range of optional equipment and accessories, Mustangs could be tailored for the customers needs: a sports car, a luxury car, a family car, a status car and an economy car. Without doubt the Mustang was the car many Americans wanted and within two years over one million had been sold.
Specific history of this car
This elegant car was purchased new by the current owner in January 1965. It is therefor one owner from new and still belongs to the same Swiss doctor who only used it through summer months around Lake Geneva. The vehicle retains its original paint and interior scheme and was always garaged throughout the winter months.
Condition
Today still showing the original 91,000 km, the car is in very good original condition throughout. It was never involved in any accident and the body was repainted in 1992 and appears to be without rust. Due to its limited use over the last 39 years the interior too is in very reasonable original condition. The car has always been well maintained and comes with the latest technical expertise and bills and is only for sale due to lack of use for health reasons.
