A Victorian papier-mâché work box
Circa 1850
Of rectangular form, painted overall depicting various scenic landscapes, the fall front with silver metal lock stamped R&GB and opening to reveal two drawers with ivory knop to each, the third lower drawer with white metal escutcheon and stamped lock plate, opening to a velvet covered writing slope, the interior fitted with twin recesses (lacking inkwells) flanking a covered recess, the lid painted with conforming rustic scene with ivory knop and bands
