A ROMAN BRONZE APPLIQUÉ
CIRCA 1ST CENTURY A.D.
In the form of Oceanus, with swirling locks of hair framing his face, two fins projecting from the crown of his head, his face with overlapping jagged scales in low relief, the tips of some highlighted in silver, his arching brows and large eyes inlaid in silver (the garnet pupils modern additions), a V-shaped marking centered on his furrowed forehead inlaid in silver, his teeth also in silver, a clam shell and confronting dolphins at his chin, perforations below and through the ears for attachment
