A LARGE CHINESE CLOISONNE ENAMEL SQUARE CENSER AND COVER
LATE 18TH 19TH CENTURY
Raised on four tall gilt-bronze supports cast in the form of stylized dragons with inwardly bent tails, the sides decorated with large blue characters, fu lu, reserved against a turquoise ground decorated with small gilt shou characters, below a narrow dogtooth band on the edge of the rim, the domed cover similarly decorated below a crouching buddhistic lion, the base cast with an apocryphal Xuande mark
25¾ in. (65.5 cm.) high

The characters fu lu combined with the shou characters of the background symbolize wishes for 'happiness, rank and longevity'.
