Introduced in 1963, the Corvette Sting Ray took both its name and general shape from Bill Mitchell's late-Fifties Sting Ray racer, and was quite unlike any other car on the road. Almost everything on the later model was changed for the better. The new design was radical with a sharp creased hip line around the entire car, incorporating retractable headlights. The dimensions were also downsized, with the wheelbase shrinking six inches to 96 inches. The body, however, was slightly wider and incorporated a new steel reinforced cage, to provide a larger, safer and more comfortable cockpit. The Sting Ray quickly proved to be the fastest and most driveable Corvette yet, as well as the most popular due as much to the increased creature comforts as the performance; leather upholstery, power steering, power brakes and even air-conditioning were available, a first for its class.

Over the next few years, the Sting Ray evolved through progressively cleaner styling, increased power and greater mechanical sophistication. 1965 saw the introduction of the 'Big Block' engine, an evolution that would continue to bring the car notoriety. Along with increased power plant options came disc brakes and a number of appearance improvements. There were no indentations in the hood, and the air outlets behind the front wheels became a functional three-louvered grill borrowed directly from the Ferrari 250 GTO, a mark of respect perhaps for the car so beloved by the styling staff.

This distinctive roadster comes complete with the beautiful side mounted exhaust system, available as a factory option only in 1965-66, desirable aluminum wheels, and is generally very well-presented throughout, including the underside of the car. The paintwork is in near flawless condition, as is the interior, the convertible top and trim work. This is a great opportunity to acquire a numbers matching, Big Block Corvette roadster, one of America's most quintessential sports cars.
