Engine: six cylinder, overhead-valve, monobloc, bore 88.5mm, stroke 120.7mm., capacity 4,467cc; Gearbox: four speed manual; Suspension: front and rear semi-elliptic leaf spring; Brakes: four wheel drum with servo-assist. Right hand drive.
Built in the British rough and tough tradition the M45 Lagonda announced at the 1933 London Motor Show used the same six-cylinder Meadows engine as had been fitted to Invictas since 1928, and offered an excellent performance: Top speed was over 96mph, 80 mph was possible in third and the 0-70 acceleration time was 20 seconds.
This example was supplied new to South Africa, with the factory T7 bodywork it wears today. It remained there until the mid-1970s when it was bought by the current owner. When he moved to America in 1978, he brought the car with him.
In the early 1990s when the car was by then a little tired mechanically, the owner elected to commit the M45 to a comprehensive rebuild at the noted restoration company Hill & Vaughan. On completion of this work, the car was photographed to feature in Beverly Rae Kimes book The Classic Era.
Offered for sale in good presentable and usable order and very much a regretted sale, the car comes complete with rear mounted spare tire, convertible top, and tonneau cover. An archetypal pre-war British Sports car.
