Crossbanded overall in satinwood, the rectangular top with rounded front corners, above three drawers flanked by ring-turned columns, on pinched turned feet, the handles original

Provenance
Probably supplied to William Ralph Cartwright (b.1771) for Aynhoe Park, Banbury, and by descent until the 1950s.
Bought by Mrs Bennett, 1 Chesterton Road, Cambridge, from Collins & Clark, 25 March 1961 (£85).

Lot Essay

Aynhoe Park, originally a Jacobean house, was altered and enlarged over the ensuing centuries, including both internally and externally by Sir John Soane in 1800-1805. It was the home of the Cartright family from 1615 until the 1950s. In 1960 it was taken over by the Country Houses Association.
