The shaped rectangular moulded top above four graduated mahogany-lined drawers between cluster-column angles, on shaped bracket feet, minor restorations to the plinth and feet, the handles replaced

Lot Essay

The serpentined chest is designed for a bedroom apartment and with its cluster-column angles it may have been supplied en suite with a canopy bed, with cluster-column front posts, such as that illustrated by Thomas Chippendale in his Gentleman and Cabinet-Maker's Director, London, 1754, pl. XXX.
A related dressing-commode with triple cluster-column angles was sold anonymously, Christie's, London, 8 July 1999, lot 131 [30].
