Lot Essay

The present lot is a variation on the Coade etching shown (No.49 from the catalogue of etchings of circa 1785.) These fluted vases and the numerous variations on the same theme were amongst the most popular models from the factory. The parapit of Mrs Coade's house, Belmont, at Lyme Regis, Dorset is adorned with six of this design.
