Lot Essay

These modern lead models originate in design from the connoisseur/collector Thomas Hope (d.1831), and a settee in his Duchess Street mansion museum in London. The model is taken from a terracotta figure produced both by Mark Blanchard and Coade, the later is known to have supplied Hope with numerous pieces.
