Lot Essay

The company is one of the more prolific producers of garden ornament throughout the 19th century and into the 20th century. The firm was founded in 1815, based at first in Vauxhall then moving to Lambeth, but it was under Henry Doulton (1820-97) that it flourished, using designers such as George Tinworth (1843-1913), who was resident sculptor from 1867.
