Lot Essay

In the early 1980's, Andy Warhol was contacted by Julie Sylvester who was the Dia Art Foundation's Project Director for Commissioned Works. Working with Sylvester, Warhol created a flower image (sometimes referred to as Double Daises) that was to be made into a repeated pattern of wallpaper for a new hospital facility in Maryland. The commission was never realized. Nonetheless, the artist made a series of tests proofs. According to Sylvester, Warhol signed, titled and dated only four, one of which is the present lot.
