Each of campana form, on square foot with laurel leaf border, the lower body chased with stylized acanthus below a pierced band of foliate scrolls, birds, cornucopiae and classical masks, the everted rim with pierced lozenge border, each on parcel-gilt square plinths, applied with gilt bacchic masks, with metal liners, each marked on foot, rim and plinth

Lot Essay

These urns formed part of an important table garniture made by Giovanni Casolla between 1824-1832 for a European royal house. The remaining parts of the service, consisting of four pierced urns, a centerpiece supported by classical maidens, two smaller centerpieces supported by putti and a mirror plateau are illustrated in Bruno Molajoli, Argenti Napoletani dal XVI al XIX Secolo, 1973, p. 336. The four urns and centerpiece supported by classical maidens from this garniture sold from the collection of Barbara Piasecka Johnson at Sotheby's, Paris, October 15, 2003, lot 38
