Lot Essay

These four salt cellars are a variation on the design by William Theed, and a set of eight related salt cellars by Paul Storr is discussed in lot 224. While most examples were made by Paul Storr, William Pitts also worked for Rundell's. As Rundell's owned the drawing for the related model, it is reasonable to assume Rundell's commissioned Pitts to produce this set.
