The square top decorated with a chessboard in a scrolling foliate border, above a triple-moulded frieze with a drawer, on a bobbin-turned column and serpentine legs and later paterae, the decoration refreshed

R. Ackermann's Repository of Arts of 1817 issued pen-work patterns in the antique fashion for 'Painting on Wood and Fancy Work', while similarly flowered borders in the manner engraved on 18th Century Indian ivory furniture featured on tables executed in 1815 and signed by 'Henzell Gouch' (Hyde Park Antiques, Penwork: The Triumph of Line, New York, 1989, B-14).
