Lot Essay

The proportion of the apron and spandrels, the tight curvature of the spandrels and the placement of the double stretchers suggest an earlier date and an origin possibly from the Suzhou area. See a similar example illustrated in Wang Shixiang, Connoisseurship of Chinese Furniture, vol. II, Hong Kong, 1990, p.96, pl. B81. See also the table in the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Asian Art, Summer 1991.
