Lot Essay

The date of birth for the Florentine Saint Andrew Corsini is still uncertain and is generally considered to be around 1300. He entered the Carmelite Order aged fifteen and in 1348 became superior of the Order in Tuscany. He was noted for being sage and generous, especially during the plague in Florence in 1348-49. He became bishop of Fiesole in 1349 and, after a remarkable episcopate, he died on the 6th January 1374. He was canonized in 1629.
