Lot Essay

Luigi Frullini (1839-1897) was a leading Italian restorer and carver who exhibited work at the 1862 London International Exhibition and at the Paris 1867 and 1878 Expositions Universelles. He had several American and English patrons, including Sir William Drake, for whose London house Luigi Frullini carved a suite of furniture (see Burlington, Volumn CXXI, No. 918, September 1979). The folio stand, now in the Victoria & Albert Museum, may well have been part of this commission. A suite of library and dining room furniture by Frullini is in the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
