Lot Essay

Tchoumakoff was a well known painter of genre, portraiture and landscape. He was born in St Petersburg and died in Paris. As a pupil and member of the Academy of St Petersburg, he took part in a number of exhibitions in France, most notably in Reims (1870). Examples of Tchoumakoff's work can be found in the Museum of Cologne, the Roumianzeff collection in Moscow, and in the Hermitage in St Petersburg.
