Decorated with of classical figures beside pedestals issuing flowers and with lily-of-the-valley to the reverse, mounted with lion-mask handles issuing scrolls, the gilt-metal bases etched with anthemions on paw feet, with pierced fitments, adapted for electricity

Lot Essay

A closely related group of pâte-sur-pâte 'meteor' lighting - the porcelain body reflecting the innovation introduced to England by Marc Solon in 1870 - was supplied to William, 3rd Marquess of Exeter for Burghley House, Lincolnshire ('Country House Lighting', Exhibition Catalogue, Leeds, 1992, no.73, p.89).
