Edwards and P. MacQuoid, The Dictionary of English Furniture, 1924-27, vol. 2, P.5, fig, 8. Interestingly Elizabeth, 9th Duchess was a Sackville-West who was brought up at Knole. Probably acquired for Woburn in the early 20th Century, along with a chandelier en suite which remains in the Private Wing, these wall-lights may well have been supplied by the London firm Lenygon & Co., as an identical chandelier was photographed in their showrooms at 31 Old Burlington Street in Francis Lenygon, The Decoration and Furniture of English Mansions during the Seventeenth and Eighteeenth Centuries, London, 1909, p.19). A related set of wall-lights and chandeliers were probably supplied by Lenygon to their client Lord Levehulme for the Hill, Hampstead, where they are shown in an interior photograph of circa 1915; the chandeliers were subsequently sold by the Executors of the late Viscount Leverhulme, Thornton Manor, Cheshire, Sotheby's House sale, 26-28 June lots 59-61.
