Lot Essay

This pair of portraits were presented to Lord Odo Russell (1829-1884) by the Crown Prince and Princess of Germany while he was Ambassador in Berlin between 1871 and 1884. Lord Odo Russell was the nephew of the statesman Lord John Russell, Earl Russell of Kingston Russell. Lord Odo was created Lord Ampthill in 1881.
