Lot Essay

Owned by Anne, Duchess of Westminster, Foinavon, like Arkle, was also named after a mountain near her estate in Northwest Scotland. Foinavon is most famously known as the 100-1 horse entered into the Grand National in 1967 who went on to win the race after a pile-up at the 27th fence, thereby earning himself a place in the history of the Grand National and the course itself, as this fence is now named 'The Foinavon Fence'.
