Lot Essay

The Prussian Eagle is connected with the 14th. It was granted the title in 1798 of '14th (or Duchess of York's Own) Light Dragoons' in honour of Frederica Charlotte Ulrica Catherina, Princess Royal of Prussia, who had married the Duke of York in 1791. The badge ceased to be worn after 1915 but was restored on the amalgamation of the two regiments in 1931.
