Husain's numerous canvases dedicated to the subject of Mother Teresa stand testimony to the profound impact the latter had on the former's artistic sensibilities. The first of these works was painted in 1980. Regardless of the medium used, Husain portrays her as a faceless woman, dressed in a stark white sari with a dark blue border, often in the presence of children.
