Most of the etuis have divisions for lancets and some retain lancets. Those present mostly have tortoiseshell guards, although a few are in mother of pearl and one pair are in abalone. Makers of the blades include Wood, Savingy, Bigg, Cluley, Baker, Evans, Laundy, Mather, Ferris, Smith, Charrire, Whitford, Bodker and others. Many of the silver etuis are hallmarked for the first half of the Nineteenth century.
