Half title, etched portrait, etched and engraved plates, 3 maps printed in colours, 2 folding, 2-pages of publisher's advertisements at end. (Occasional spotting and staining, a few tears.) Original pictorial cloth gilt (extremities rubbed, joints splitting, spine creased and frayed at foot). PRESENTATION COPY, the front free endpaper inscribed, "Mrs. Gillett, with the best wishes of the author, Dec. 1883."
