Lot Essay

After service in the Napoleonic wars on HMS Endymion, Hoppner served as lieutenant on Commander Lyons' Hecla on Parry's second voyage in search of a North west Passage in 1821-23. He returned (with Parry) as Commander ofthe Hecla to search for the Passage in 1824-25.
