A rare acetate of Elton John's first release under his real name, Reg Dwight, the double-sided 7" mono acetate by Bluesology, 1965, with blue and silver Jackson Recording Studios, Rickmansworth, Herts label, the A-side and B-side with typescript details "Come Back Baby", Bluesology and "Corina Corina", Bluesology, the acetate in common mount with a copy of the released version of the single Come Back, Baby/Times Are Getting Tougher Than Tough, Fontana, 1965, 45rpm; and three black and white photographs of Bluesology in rehearsal at a hall in North Harrow in 1965 [printed later], two of Reg Dwight singing and playing the piano and one of all five band members, each -- 4x3in. (10.2x7.7cm.) or 3x4in. (7.7x10.2xcm.), framed; accompanied by a letter concerning the provenance from Bluesology bass guitarist, Geoff Dyson (2)

Lot Essay

The A-side of this acetate Come Back Baby was written and sung by Reg Dwight a.k.a. Elton John. Corina Corina was an traditional Blues composition sung by guitarist Stuart Brown.

According to the accompanying letter from Geoff Dyson, who was present when the acetate was recorded, ...Three copies were made of the recording on acetate for demonstration purposes and were taken to various record companies by members of the band. This acetate is probably the only one surviving. Corina, Corina was on Bluesology's play list but the recording made at Jackson's was never released... Fontana Records preferred to use Bluesology's version of Times Are Getting Tougher Than Tough, sung by Stuart Brown and inspired by Jimmy Witherspoon...
