Lot Essay

The vendor ran the Dancing School at Irby village hall in Heswall and arranged a dance every month for teenagers, and hired local bands to appear. The Beatles booking came about because her daughter was good friends with Paul McCartney's step-sister, Ruth. Apparently, the School could not afford to pay the Beatles the whole sum on the evening of the dance and held a jumble sale the following week to raise the balance of the money owed.

The vendor believes this is the only ticket for this dance to have survived as she recalls ripping the others in half on entry to the hall. Certainly, to our knowledge, this is the first ticket for this early concert to have appeared on the market.
