Compare the larger Yueyao jar (27.9 cm. high) similarly modelled as a beast seated on its haunches in the Nanjing Municipal Museum that was excavated in 1976 from a Western Jin tomb dated to 302 in Zhoumudun, Yixing, Jiangsu province, illustrated by Wang Qingzheng, A Dictionary of Chinese Ceramics, Singapore, 2002, p. 34. See, also, the related jar of slightly larger size (10.8 cm. high) modelled as a similar beast, but with a short cylindrical mouth, included in the exhibition catalogue, Ancient Chinese bronzes and ceramics, Eskenazi, London, 23 March-3 April 1999, no. 10.
