A LARGE CELADON-GLAZED MOLDED PEAR-SHAPED VASE

Each side of the generously potted body decorated in low relief with a jardinière raised on a bench, one containing a miniature pine tree below a bat in flight above, the other containing chrysanthemums, with a pair of foliate scroll handles, the bulb-shaped mouth decorated with butterflies and the canted rim with dots, all under a soft sea-green glaze thinning to a paler tone on the raised decoration

Lot Essay

Very similar foliate handles can be seen on a celadon-glazed vase of a different shape dated to the Qianlong period, illustrated by Zhou Luanshu, China's Jingdezhen Porcelain Through the Ages, Qing Dynasty, Beijing, 1998, no. 234.
