The frame on the present work, dated 1879, was most likely carved by Jennie Philips, the artist's sister. Jennie Philips studied woodcarving at the School of Design (now the Cincinnati Art Academy) from 1874 to 1877. She exhibited a carved frame in the Women's Pavilion at the 1876 Centennial Exposition. In 1878 Philips carved the Gluck panel and a portion of molding for Cincinnati's Music Hall organ screen.
