According to Margaret F. MacDonald, the present work was most likely drawn at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point circa 1852 to 1854 and given to a fellow cadet, (later General) Alexander Webb. The subject possibly depicts a graduate being congratulated by two fellow cadets.
