Lot Essay

Reverend Arthayer R. Sanborn was a Baptist minister and close friend of the Hoppers. In 1967 Reverend Sanborn conducted the artist's funeral in Nyack, New York, for which he received five hundred dollars from the artist's estate. Reverend Sanborn acquired the present work from the estate of the artist that same year.
