A late 19th century grey enamelled and lacquered brass theodolite, unsigned, probably German, the telescope with rack and pinion focusing, object glass dust cap and graduated bubble level, the axis with quadrant engraved 70°-0°-70° with silvered scale and vernier, raised on twin A-frames from the horizontal plate with silvered scale, two verniers and single magnifier, additional horizontal levels and fine adjustment by tangent screw with clamp, raised on a tripod stand with three adjustable screw and pad feet, contained in mahogany carrying case with iron hinges and brass carrying handle and leather carrying straps - 15¾in. (40cm.) high
