An Inlaid Lacquer Picnic Set (Sage Jubako)
20th century
Designed on the outside in iridescent shell inlays and gold hiramaki-e against a glossy black-lacquer ground with autumn grasses, the back with an x-shaped aperture revealing the boxes within, the edges lacquered fundame, picnic set decorated with butterfies in inlaid shell against a black-lacquer ground and comprising a four-tier stacking box and a rectangular covered box, a sake container and three sake cups, and a rectangular sweet tray; interiors red lacquer and edges fundame; loop handle with floret bosses
